Educational Resources

The Anne Frank Center offers a range of teaching resources for use in classrooms before a visit to an Anne Frank exhibit, as part of a visit, or after to extend and deepen learning. Lessons do not require a visit to an exhibition and can be used as a stand alone instructional resource.

Lesson plans include instructional resources to be used with The Ice Cream Man film and the Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Outcomes package created in partnership with Big Picture Classroom.

Part of a Comprehensive Package for Schools with the Power of Cinema

Lesson plans in this series are designed for those schools participating in the Extraordinary Lives, Extraordinary Outcomes package. They are written for multiple curriculum areas and grade levels and connect to both the story of Anne Frank and the story of Ernst Cahn as told in the award-winning film The Ice Cream Man.

lesson plan 1: media literacy

  • "There could not be a better time to discuss historical antisemitism. Now more than ever, with misinformation and antisemitism on the rise around the world, it is critical that students understand. Several students commented that they learned so much and the conversations we had were inspiring."

Nick Vartanian, History Dept. Chair, Holland HS (Michigan)

On Otto Frank & the Longest Hatred Lesson Plan

  • "My students were able to apply the social psychology concepts we'd been studying in class to a powerful film and the history of the holocaust. What is so powerful about the lesson is that it doesn't just define and teach, it guides and inspires action."

Justin Scott, AP Psychology Teacher, Otsego HS (Michigan)

On Escalation to Violence Lesson Plan

  • "This lesson plan captures essential concepts I want students to take away from our study of this history."

Heather Brougham-Cook, English, The Cross Schools (South Carolina)
